The Agency Dedicated to Changing Public Opinion About Cannabis & Hemp

History of Cannabis

When cannabis is used as a drug, it is called marijuana. The oldest known cannabis use comes from the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung in 2727 B.C. Ancient Greeks and Romans were also familiar with cannabis, while in the Middle East, use spread throughout the Islamic empire to North Africa.

Cannabis finally came to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, arriving in the southwest United States from Mexican immigrants fleeing the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1911. "Many early prejudices against marijuana were thinly veiled racist fears of its smokers," Warf wrote.

In 1937, Congress passed the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937; however, it was based on poorly attended hearings and questionable studies. Newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst demonized the cannabis plant, spreading myths of connections between cannabis and violent crime. His goal was to destroy the hemp industry, as he was heavily invested in the paper industry for his newspaper conglomerate.

Jeanine Buckley has always been an outlier. A woman in male-dominated industries, an international consultant, a woman business owner. So she is accustomed to being told "It won't work, dumb idea, we don't do that in THIS industry."

She attributes this to her success, having worked in telecom, management consulting, high tech, luxury food service, consumer products, B2B, medical services and travel, she often uses techniques from one industry and applies them to another.

That's exactly why she jumped at the opportunity to maximize her public relations experience in the cannabis and hemp industries where public awareness and opinion desperately need a crusader.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Buckley has been closely following the cannabis and hemp debates. Especially with the new administration, the "FAKE NEWS" being promulgated about cannabis and hemp need to be dispelled. That's her challenge!

History of Hemp

When cannabis is used for cloth, paper or rope, it is called hemp, with the biggest distinctions being the growing methods and very low THC levels.

In Great Britain, hemp cultivation dates back to 800 AD. In the 16th Century, Henry VIII encouraged farmers to plant hemp extensively to for the British Naval fleet.

In 1545, the use of hemp spread to the western hemisphere where Spaniards imported it as fiber to Chile.

As the American colonies expanded their influence, so did hemp. The paper used for the Declaration of Independence was made from hemp fibers. In 17th Century America, farmers in Virginia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut were ordered by law to grow Indian hemp. By the early 18th century, a person could be sentenced to jail if they weren’t growing hemp! For over 200 years in colonial America, hemp was even considered a currency that one could use to pay their taxes with!

It wasn't until the late 1800s that a smear campaign associating hemp with marijuana was started. Propaganda films like “Reefer Madness” assured hemp’s demise.
